"amazon-day-5", "body" => "<p>Day 5: Things got blurry <br> <br>One thing I did not mention in Day 4 is that day I thought my contact was blurry, but I took it out and it was still blurry…not good. By the morning Day 5, I can’t open it, and it is swollen. Nurses on the bloat looked at it, and it was decided I have to take the speedboat to Parintins. This is any hour on a speedboat, wind, etc, with an eye in pain. Not to mention, I have to leave the team for the morning and possible afternoon. But, I know I have to go. <br> <br>We load up the speedboat: driver, me, Pastor Abimiel, Fernanda (translator), and Riezia (Translator). We go through some crazy back roads, or tributaries of the Amazon. It was really cool from what I could tell with my right eye, which is blurred because I don’t have contacts in and sunglasses are not prescription. So no real eyesight all day. <br> <br>Get to Parintins, and I get off the boat waiting with the translators for my ride from Pastor Elmay or Pastor David, who is another pastor at Elmay’s church. As we are waiting by the boat shop and river, something comes by the feet and under the boat shop. I asked the translator what was that, I could not see it, and she said, it was a rat. I thought it looked big…then she says wait it is a…how do you say alligator. It was a Cayman, which is a small alligator. Crazy! <br> <br>Pastor David picks us up, and we go to the eye doctor. We get there, and I meet Pastor Elmay. He is really cool. He moved to the states at 14 to a boarding school in Kentucky speaking no English. He graduated from Southwestern, and went back to Parintins in 1998 since then has taken over his dad’s church, and done many other things in the city, which I will speak about later. It takes about 30 minutes to see the doctor where I find out I have an ulcer on my eye that is about .5mm big on my cornea. He gives me eye drops, and then drops the big news he wants me to stay in the city tonight and see him tomorrow. He said I got bacteria on my hand, it got in my contacts, and caused this to happen. He didn’t want me to stay on the boat. This was not good news. I didn’t want to leave the team, but I knew God is sovereign. Something was going to come out of this craziness. <br> <br>I took the speedboat back to get all my stuff. As we are going back we decided to stop and eat a sandwich that the boat crew packed. As we pull under a tree to eat, Cayman run everywhere, and a few fall out of the tree as they were sunbathing…I looked up and thought one might fall on my head. They didn’t, but it was cool to finally see one. <br> <br>When I got on the boat, I told the team what was up. It was kind of a Debby Downer. But I encouraged them, and they me. I spent the afternoon on the boat resting, and then in the late afternoon we got in the speedboat again to Parintins. When we arrived Pastor Elmay picked me up, and he got me a hotel. He had things going on that night, and I was not on his radar as this was a last minute thing. I completely understood. He put me up in the best hotel in town, the Amazon Rive Hotel, overlooking surprise the Amazon. It was nice, and the food was good. I pondered for most of the night why this happened, and called Mandy to let her know then Christopher. <br> <br>It was a crazy day, but again I know God is sovereign and works all things for good according to those who love him. I am a very tired, and a little frustrated yet I have a lot of anticipation for what tomorrow holds. <br> <br>Looking back over this, I can see people reading this and saying, “That is why I would not go on a foreign mission trip to the Amazon, or Africa.” Don’t let my story add to this line of thinking. I had a friend tell me one time, “Being at the center of God’s will is the safest place to be.” He is right. God wanted me to come down here, and do I trust that he knows better than me? Yes, and you should too. If you feel God tugging on you to go on a Mission Trip like the Amazon, you are safer to follow His leading than your own. He is taking care of me even with this happening. I have not been scared at all because I know he is in control, and I am in submission. "amazon-day-5", "body" => "<p>Day 5: Things got blurry <br> <br>One thing I did not mention in Day 4 is that day I thought my contact was blurry, but I took it out and it was still blurry…not good. By the morning Day 5, I can’t open it, and it is swollen. Nurses on the bloat looked at it, and it was decided I have to take the speedboat to Parintins. This is any hour on a speedboat, wind, etc, with an eye in pain. Not to mention, I have to leave the team for the morning and possible afternoon. But, I know I have to go. <br> <br>We load up the speedboat: driver, me, Pastor Abimiel, Fernanda (translator), and Riezia (Translator). We go through some crazy back roads, or tributaries of the Amazon. It was really cool from what I could tell with my right eye, which is blurred because I don’t have contacts in and sunglasses are not prescription. So no real eyesight all day. <br> <br>Get to Parintins, and I get off the boat waiting with the translators for my ride from Pastor Elmay or Pastor David, who is another pastor at Elmay’s church. As we are waiting by the boat shop and river, something comes by the feet and under the boat shop. I asked the translator what was that, I could not see it, and she said, it was a rat. I thought it looked big…then she says wait it is a…how do you say alligator. It was a Cayman, which is a small alligator. Crazy! <br> <br>Pastor David picks us up, and we go to the eye doctor. We get there, and I meet Pastor Elmay. He is really cool. He moved to the states at 14 to a boarding school in Kentucky speaking no English. He graduated from Southwestern, and went back to Parintins in 1998 since then has taken over his dad’s church, and done many other things in the city, which I will speak about later. It takes about 30 minutes to see the doctor where I find out I have an ulcer on my eye that is about .5mm big on my cornea. He gives me eye drops, and then drops the big news he wants me to stay in the city tonight and see him tomorrow. He said I got bacteria on my hand, it got in my contacts, and caused this to happen. He didn’t want me to stay on the boat. This was not good news. I didn’t want to leave the team, but I knew God is sovereign. Something was going to come out of this craziness. <br> <br>I took the speedboat back to get all my stuff. As we are going back we decided to stop and eat a sandwich that the boat crew packed. As we pull under a tree to eat, Cayman run everywhere, and a few fall out of the tree as they were sunbathing…I looked up and thought one might fall on my head. They didn’t, but it was cool to finally see one. <br> <br>When I got on the boat, I told the team what was up. It was kind of a Debby Downer. But I encouraged them, and they me. I spent the afternoon on the boat resting, and then in the late afternoon we got in the speedboat again to Parintins. When we arrived Pastor Elmay picked me up, and he got me a hotel. He had things going on that night, and I was not on his radar as this was a last minute thing. I completely understood. He put me up in the best hotel in town, the Amazon Rive Hotel, overlooking surprise the Amazon. It was nice, and the food was good. I pondered for most of the night why this happened, and called Mandy to let her know then Christopher. <br> <br>It was a crazy day, but again I know God is sovereign and works all things for good according to those who love him. I am a very tired, and a little frustrated yet I have a lot of anticipation for what tomorrow holds. <br> <br>Looking back over this, I can see people reading this and saying, “That is why I would not go on a foreign mission trip to the Amazon, or Africa.” Don’t let my story add to this line of thinking. I had a friend tell me one time, “Being at the center of God’s will is the safest place to be.” He is right. God wanted me to come down here, and do I trust that he knows better than me? Yes, and you should too. If you feel God tugging on you to go on a Mission Trip like the Amazon, you are safer to follow His leading than your own. He is taking care of me even with this happening. I have not been scared at all because I know he is in control, and I am in submission.
