Before answering, think of what the word means. Webster's dictionary describes this verb as "to strike with sudden and usually great wonder". I think I have only been astonished a rather few times in my life. One such instance was when skiing a 3 mountain system in the Alps as a teenager. I was the first in the chair lift that morning while it was still relatively dark outside. I arrived at the top of the third mountain, above the clouds surrounded by magnificent peaks, just in time to witness the sun crest the horizon of clouds in much glory. The top side of the clouds was so smooth that for the briefest of moments I was convinced that I could have skied down a hundred yards where the clouds met the mountain and continue on that false plateau of clouds. My attention was arrested in that moment and I was truly astonished by God's creation. Many years later that same astonishment overcame me in another mountain setting. I was in the Himalayas this time teaching pastors about leadership. Being surrounded by the biggest mountains in the world, teaching pastors who were ready to die for Christ, and stunned that God allowed me to participate in this grand adventure - It was astonishing. Another moment for me was leading someone in the prayer of salvation for the first time and seeing the nearly instantaneous transformation of a young woman's face as she came to know our risen Lord.</font></div> <div dir="ltr"> </div> <div dir="ltr"><font face="tahoma" size="2">By God's grace, I was astonished yet again this Easter morning at FBC Coppell in our service. It was a magnificent blend of insanely talented musicians, a solid worship choir, 180 degrees of video, graceful lighting, a truly unique message for Easter, and the unmistakeable presence of the most high God. What really makes my heart sing is that this service was literally the culmination of 18 months of work and truly shows the potential within this church. I think I have only been astonished a rather few times in my life. One such instance was when skiing a 3 mountain system in the Alps as a teenager. I was the first in the chair lift that morning while it was still relatively dark outside. I arrived at the top of the third mountain, above the clouds surrounded by magnificent peaks, just in time to witness the sun crest the horizon of clouds in much glory. The top side of the clouds was so smooth that for the briefest of moments I was convinced that I could have skied down a hundred yards where the clouds met the mountain and continue on that false plateau of clouds. My attention was arrested in that moment and I was truly astonished by God's creation. Many years later that same astonishment overcame me in another mountain setting. I was in the Himalayas this time teaching pastors about leadership. Being surrounded by the biggest mountains in the world, teaching pastors who were ready to die for Christ, and stunned that God allowed me to participate in this grand adventure - It was astonishing. Another moment for me was leading someone in the prayer of salvation for the first time and seeing the nearly instantaneous transformation of a young woman's face as she came to know our risen Lord.</font></div> <div dir="ltr"> </div> <div dir="ltr"><font face="tahoma" size="2">By God's grace, I was astonished yet again this Easter morning at FBC Coppell in our service.
