weeks I have been impacted by the REST series in two distinct ways: The first is based in the concept that one does not necessarily find rest by stopping. For most of my life I have been a high achiever. That drive combined with the "boomer" work ethic instilled by my parents had falsely convinced me that success was not leaving anything in the tank - to work until you couldn't work anymore - physically, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, etc. What I have come to realize, by the instruction of the Holy Spirit, is that I will never find true rest in stopping all together. In order to gain rest I have to change within so that by doing more of the right things I will gain rest.<br><br>Secondly, I have been studying Ecclesiastes for the past couple of weeks. The author repeats the phrase "all is vanity and a striving after the wind". That phrase combined with the REST series has convicted me deeply to focus on the most important things in life. For me, these are simply loving God and loving others with my family front and center. I remember Billy Graham in an interview where he was asked if he had any regrets in his life. His response was that he regretted starting his ministry before the age of 50 due to the negative impact he allowed it to have on his family. weeks I have been impacted by the REST series in two distinct ways: The first is based in the concept that one does not necessarily find rest by stopping. For most of my life I have been a high achiever. That drive combined with the "boomer" work ethic instilled by my parents had falsely convinced me that success was not leaving anything in the tank - to work until you couldn't work anymore - physically, emotionally, spiritually, relationally, etc. What I have come to realize, by the instruction of the Holy Spirit, is that I will never find true rest in stopping all together. In order to gain rest I have to change within so that by doing more of the right things I will gain rest.<br><br>Secondly, I have been studying Ecclesiastes for the past couple of weeks. The author repeats the phrase "all is vanity and a striving after the wind". That phrase combined with the REST series has convicted me deeply to focus on the most important things in life. For me, these are simply loving God and loving others with my family front and center. I remember Billy Graham in an interview where he was asked if he had any regrets in his life. His response was that he regretted starting his ministry before the age of 50 due to the negative impact he allowed it to have on his family.
